Oil in Cuba

DTCuba.com

The oil refinery in the Cuban central province of Cienfuegos started up production after its recent re-inauguration.

The plant, which was reactivated in cooperation with Venezuela, can refine 65,000 barrels of oil a day and is expected to start supplying oil byproducts in late January.

Experts said the refinery would produce fuel oil, diesel, naphtha, turbo fuel and gasoline, among other oil byproducts.

The plant’s technicians also worked on the enlargement of storage tanks, on which 50,000-cubic-meter geodesic domes were installed.

Remodeling works also increased the plant’s environmental safety and security.

The new technology allows experts to monitor production from a control office, as most processes are performed automatically.

That initiative is part of a project to create a petrochemical complex in the region.
